Spring has arrived, bringing a wave of newborn kittens to Oakland. At Oakland Animal Services, kittens are arriving at the shelter every day. They are small, fragile, ridiculously cute, and these little babies come with big needs.
Kitten season is one of the most overwhelming times of the year for the shelter due to the large amount of resources required to care for the constant influx of kittens. That’s why we’re throwing a virtual Kitten Shower!
What is a Kitten Shower?
Think of a Kitten Shower like a human baby shower, but with a furry twist! We’re inviting you to help us prepare for kitten season by donating essential supplies that are critical for caring for vulnerable kittens. In addition to giving gifts, you’ll get to see your contributions make an immediate impact as the kittens put them to good use.
During our 7-day Kitten Takeover online from April 7 to 13, the kittens will showcase the bottles, blankets, toys, food, and treats that we receive from generous supporters.
Your donations go straight to use and in the cutest ways possible!
Here’s how to help and join the fun:
Every donation helps these kittens grow healthy, happy, and ready for adoption.

Why Your Support is Critical
Kittens are fragile and need constant care to survive. Our incredibly hard-working FOAS-funded foster team is already geared up to support foster parents, but we can’t do it without your help.
During the peak of last year’s kitten season, our foster program went through 420 packs of wet food and 175 bags of litter. That’s a lot of eating… and a lot of pooping!
These kittens may have a tough start in life, and it’s up to us, and our community, to give them the care they need.
Help us be kitten-ready with enough supplies and care to help every kitten thrive!
