We Did It!
UPDATE 6-10-2026
We are so grateful for our strong, compassionate community who showed up to support our Baby Animals campaign. We are thrilled to share that we exceeded our $50,000 goal!
Because of a generous group of donors who pledged matching funds, more than $100,000 is going directly toward funding lifesaving programs for the puppies, kittens, bunnies, and other young animals who need us most.
Every donation, share, comment, and show of support helped make this possible.
If you’re reading this after the campaign, don’t worry; you can still read about the impact that your donations make here:

During spring, we’re focusing all our efforts on the youngest arrivals at Oakland Animal Services, the baby animals of Oakland.
During peak baby season, we need your help to support these baby animals. As adorable as they are, the odds are stacked against them at a critical time in their life. Each year, many baby animals arrive at the shelter, about 70% of cats are kittens, and 25% of dogs are puppies. While they show up throughout the year, springtime brings a surge. Every day is critical to their survival and development. Caring for baby animals is resource-intensive, and with multiple litters arriving these peak months, the need often quickly exceeds capacity.
FOAS-funded programs make raising the baby animals who arrive at the shelter possible:
- The foster program ensures that puppies, kittens, and rabbits have a safe space to grow until they are ready for the next step in their journey. For orphaned babies who need round-the-clock care, or others who may be sick and fighting to survive, dedicated fosters open their homes so they won’t be alone.
- The transfer program builds partnerships with rescue organizations and coordinates the transfer of baby animals when those organizations have capacity.
- The adoption program helps to place kittens, puppies, and bunnies who are ready for adoption into loving homes.
Additionally, the community outreach program supports animals in the community by providing free vaccinations, which are critical for baby animals, as well as spay/neuter services to prevent future litters.
We have one clear goal: to help baby animals get the strong start they deserve.
