Kittens arrive at Oakland Animal Services throughout the year, and when they do, they’re small, fragile, and undeniably adorable, with very big needs.
“Kitten season” refers to the periods when shelters see a surge of newborn and very young kittens. During these times, the demand on resources increases dramatically as staff and foster caregivers work around the clock to keep them fed, warm, and healthy.
That’s why we host a virtual Kitten Shower to help ease the added strain on our foster program.
What is a Kitten Shower?
Think of a Kitten Shower like a human baby shower, but for kittens in need. It’s a community-driven way to help us prepare for the influx of young animals by donating essential supplies that make lifesaving care possible. Your donations, like formula, bottles, blankets, toys, wet food, and litter, go directly to the kittens who need them most.
Here’s how to help:
Every donation helps these kittens grow healthy, happy, and ready for adoption.

Why Your Support is Critical
Kittens are fragile and need constant care to survive. Our incredibly hard-working FOAS-funded foster team is already geared up to support foster parents, but we can’t do it without your help.
During the peak of last year’s kitten season, our foster program went through 420 packs of wet food and 175 bags of litter. That’s a lot of eating… and a lot of pooping!
These kittens may have a tough start in life, and it’s up to us, and our community, to give them the care they need.
Help us be kitten-ready with enough supplies and care to help every kitten thrive!
