Friends of Oakland Animal Services funds activities and positions that are designed to help Oaklanders keep their pets and keep them healthy, encourage fostering and adopting of homeless animals, and increase the live release rate of Oakland Animal Services. Our funding areas include:
- Assistance for spay and neuter services for dogs and cats of Oakland residents
- Emergency and specialized medical care
- Equipment needed to help veterinary staff better care for shelter animals
- Adoption outreach and foster program support
- Working Cat Program, a program that pairs people who need eco-friendly rodent control with feral cats looking for mousing work and a safe outdoor home
- The creation of indoor and outdoor play areas and better animal housing, including general supplies and repairs
- Transportation of animals to both local and out-of-state partners
- Tools to help with Oakland field services, including digital cameras for staff to document cruelty cases and laser thermometers to determine the temperature inside parked cars
- Materials, training, and other supplies for the volunteer program integral to the quality of life for shelter animals
