How can I donate stock to (Your Nonprofit Name)?
Donating stock is safe and easy. Using the donation form on this page, making a charitable gift of stock is a quick, five-step process:
- Select your stock ticker and confirm the company name in the donation form
- Enter your gift amount
- Type in your email and address info for the receipt
- Enter your brokerage account information
- Virtually sign & make your gift!
Upon making a donation, you will receive an email notification from The Giving Block that your gift is being processed. In some circumstances, you may need to take action with your broker. The email will have instructions on any next steps.
Charitable donations of stock are processed safely and typically within 6-8 business days with The Giving Block in partnership with Renaissance Charitable Foundation. Processing times can be longer during December or when dealing with restricted stock.
Why FOAS accepts stock?
Stock fundraising is a critical donation revenue driver for nonprofit organizations like FOAS.
With over 60% of Americans owning stock and billions in stock donated to US charities every year, stock donations can make a wide-reaching impact through philanthropy. Studies show that nonprofits that accept noncash assets typically grow 50% faster than those that do not and they grow 66% faster when they accept non cash securities such as stock.
Donating stock is also one of the most tax-efficient ways for individuals to support causes that matter to them.
By donating stock, rather than selling it and donating the cash proceeds, you get a deduction for the Fair Market Value at the date of the contribution, as well as avoiding capital gains taxes. Assuming the stock is worth more now than when you purchased it, this can be a great benefit to you, as well as a great donation for FOAS.
Example: If you purchased stock for $1,500 and it is now worth $5,000, we get the full current value and you get to deduct the full $5,000 from your taxes, and yet it only cost you $1,500. If you were to sell the stock first, and donate the proceeds, you might also be responsible to pay capital gains on the $3,500 increase in the value of the stock.
Keep in mind that everyone’s situation is different! Also, with stock donations you are limited to 30% of your AGI (adjusted gross income), meaning you may need to carry deductions into future years if your contribution exceeds this threshold.

We currently accept publicly traded, domestic common stock. We are continually in the process of adding support for new assets to donate, so please check back soon for more giving options.
Are stock donations tax-deductible?
Yes! Stock donations are one of the most tax-efficient ways to give to charity. Your stock donation is tax-deductible to the extent permitted by law; if you pay taxes in the U.S. By making a charitable gift, you may also be eligible to significantly reduce what you would otherwise owe in capital gains taxes.

Is there another way to donate stock?
Yes, download the stock donation form and send it to your financial advisor to start the process. Then, to receive a donation acknowledgement letter, please also send the form to info@friendsofoas.org. We encourage you to speak with your financial advisor if you have any questions.
